You will be working on this on Monday during your (33 minute class), you will most likely have 30 or more minutes on Day 2, and you will most likely have some time on Day 3.

Important to Remember:
-The attached template (the copy that has been populated for you) is VERY generic - you are encouraged to switch up the slide layout, the formatting, style, colors, etc. Make it YOUR OWN! Give it personality!
-Don't forget: Written Reflection.
--> This is a brief reflection you will include on the poem of choice you plan to recite to the class on Day 3 during our Poetry Cafe. (See the yellow shaded area of the Portfolio document for more details).
--> Do not forget to include the written reflection for the ONE poem you are choosing to recite. No other poem is required to have a written reflection, just the one.

DUE DATE: Your completed slidedeck Portfolio is due Day 3 at 10pm.
Your Poem Recitation is on Day 3 of class.

This assignment post is a reminder for you to:

1) Print out (or handwrite) a hard copy of your chosen poem.
--> Remember: this is the same poem you completed the written reflection for from the four poems you selected to include in your Portfolio.

2) Practice!
--> Practice reading the poem aloud.
--> Make sure the tone/mood you intend to use during delivery matches the tone/mood of your original poem creation.
Today is your Poetry On-Demand Analysis.

You have the entire class period to complete your On-Demand (Part I, Part II, Part III, and Part IV), although you should only need about 50-60 minutes. When done, work on your Poetry Portfolio (slidedeck) and begin prepping for your recitation that is happening on Day 3 of class.

During the On-Demand:
-You may use the internet to research specific words/phrases/specific references/time periods/the author, etc. from the poem. But, you CANNOT directly research the poem or the significance of the poem. If you are observed doing this on Go Guardian, you will receive an automatic 50% on this summative. The poem analysis is YOUR interpretation and YOUR moment to showcase your ability to master poetry analysis.
-Start by reading through the five poem options on the second document. Decide which one you like most, then copy it (original poem and the poem broken apart in the graphic organizer) and paste it in the yellow 'Part II' section of the document. (When pasting, make sure you get rid of the yellow highlighting that was already there)
-Annotate the poem using the highlight tool.
-Fill out the graphic organizer (where the poem is broken down into individual sections or stanzas).
-Then, complete Parts III and IV.
Hi folks,

Today you have a substitute, as Mrs. Gonterman is helping with the Speech Competition on campus today. Today is an independent work period, so please work silently and use your time effectively.

1) Read through the Poetry Cafe + Portfolio Assignment doc attached to this assignment post.

-It is a lot to read, but be patient and read it, as all of the details are there.
-There is nothing for you to turn in/submit on this GC assignment post. You will do all of your work on the assignment post on GC titled, "Poetry | Portfolio". There you will find the slidedeck template where you will create your electronic portfolio.
-Note - this week looks like the following:
a) Day 1: Work time for Portfolio creation and planning for Recitation
b) Day 2: Poetry Analysis On-Demand (in class and there is nothing to prepare ahead of time) and some work time for your Portfolio.
c) Day 3: Poetry Cafe (where we will hear the poem recitations from every student) and possibly some work time for your Portfolio (Due: 10pm Day 3).

2) Work on your Portfolio Slidedeck

-Use the class period to start organizing and designing your slidedeck (Due: Day 3 at 10pm).
-Start crafting/writing on the one written reflection that you are required to include in the slidedeck.
For homework before class on Day 3, prepare for your Socratic Seminar.

Your notes for the SS will be collected for credit.
-->At a minimum, you should be annotating directly on the hard copy of the poem you received on Day 2 of class.
--> Recommended (but not required) prep: make a copy of the attached document (this is the same document you will see for the Poetry On-Demand Analysis next week) and complete it for either one or both of your SS poems. You would also need to print out the completed document, if you would like to use it during the SS on Day 3 (since no laptops will be out during the SS). This prep will help you to be the most prepared for you to be successful in your SS.
Warm Up:

-->Write a ‘mystery’ ode!
-Do not come right out and reveal the object/thing/item.
-Give enough details so the reader can try to figure out the identity of the object/thing/item. Ex: if talking about a ‘lemon’, you would never say “lemon”, but rather that it is “fragrant”, “yellow”, “porous” etc.

-Submit your ‘response’ as an 'answer to this 'question' on GC.
This is the last task of the class period for you to work on today. Whatever is not completed in class, will become homework.

After composing your poem, make sure to read through your creation to make sure it:
-Makes sense as a whole.
-Flows and flows well.
-Contains necessary punctuation. Contains any necessary capitalization.
-Emphasizes a particular tone/mood.
-Is written in letter format, similar to the "Dear Basketball" poem by Kobe Bryant.
-Highlights your ability to use the technique of personification.
-Meets the 20-line minimum requirement.
