Speeches start next week. Here are a few practice techniques to help your delivery shine:

Mirror: Practice your speech while looking in the mirror. Check your facial expressions and gestures.

Record & Review: Use a phone to record your speech. Watch it back and ask: Am I talking too fast? Too slow? Did I add emotion to my words? Am I using fillers: "like", "um", and "uh"? See where you can improve, and record yourself again.

Friendly Audience: Present to your dog, a family member, or a neighbor. Practice using eye contact and get comfortable with eyes on you.

The Magic of the Pause: Silence is powerful. After you say something really important, tell a joke, or ask a big question, stop talking for 3 seconds. It lets the audience process what you said and builds major tension. It also makes you look like a pro who isn't afraid of the room!

Be prepared to speak on your assigned day. Practice, practice, practice!
