Welcome Letter

August 17th, 2023

Hello Parents & Guardians,

Welcome! My name is Haley Brucato, and I feel so fortunate to have your child in my English 7 classroom this year. I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.

I want to take the opportunity to introduce myself and open our line of communication. I have worked in K-12 education for 14 years, and this will be my third year teaching 7th-grade English at Fisher. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be a part of the Los Gatos community living out my passion alongside such talented, kindhearted, and inspiring young people! I hold two Bachelor's degrees in English Literature and Journalism, a Master's in Education, and two CA teaching credentials (English and K-8 Multiple Subject). I am also our school’s Newspaper Club advisor and assistant coach of the RJF Cross Country team. You will often find me cheering on our school’s teams from the sidelines, attending school plays, music and dance performances, and any other events that support my students' interests and passions outside of the classroom. In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time in the mountains, traveling, running along the coast, and visiting my five nieces in Sacramento.

I firmly believe that a student's school and home life should not be separate entities; I welcome you into our learning community to share in all we accomplish in the classroom this year. My philosophy as an educator focuses on student empowerment. I believe in providing a safe and inclusive space of mutual respect where students feel comfortable showing up each day as their authentic selves. I work tirelessly to build strong student-teacher learning partnerships, and, as a result, I hope that all of my students will feel supported, celebrated, and confident in making their voices heard. My classroom is a student-centered space that fosters autonomy, collaboration, and the use of technology in daily instruction. Most importantly, I strive to teach skills not confined to our classroom walls and those which will apply to many areas of their academic and personal lives. This year's course will guide students in becoming lifelong independent readers, effective writers, communicators, and critical thinkers.

Please take the time to review our course syllabus for expectations, procedures, and information regarding our units of study. Complete this survey to confirm you have read and understand the course syllabus. There is a space to add additional information to help me better understand your student(s) and their needs. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, or concerns. Email is the best way to reach me, but I am open to phone calls after school or conferences at your request.

I look forward to working with you to ensure your child has a successful year in English 7 and a positive and impactful middle school experience.

Warmly,

Haley Brucato
