ABOUT GENRE STUDY

Sixth grade English classes come to the library once a month for Genre Study. The purpose of this class is to introduce students to the variety of books in the library. Each month, students will learn the characteristics of one or two types of books. They will also learn how to find books they are interested in reading within that genre. Students will do a book review of the book they choose to read. The form for the review is found in the Google Classroom. They can also use their reading time as an entry on their independent reading log.

These are the genres we cover during the year:

Fiction                                                      Non Fiction

Mystery and Adventure                             Biography
Science Fiction and Fantasy                     Fact Books
Historical and Realistic                              Stories in the Library
