EMAIL TO PARENTS - NOT AN ASSIGNMENT

FYI 2/26/17

Dear Parents;
I hope the time with your family has been enjoyable and relaxing. It was certainly nice to have some calm local weather for a change.

Prior to break, I provided a brief introduction to our next unit: Warlords of Japan. This unit is a simulation that has a similar format to the Islam unit. However, the workings of the simulation are significantly different than Islam. It should prove to be an exciting experience for the students, and I am fairly certain you will hear about it at home.

The week before vacation, the students were working on an assignment entitled “Quiz Notes 20.1-20.5”. I encouraged the students to finish it before the holiday so they would not have homework over the break. Finishing it before break was not difficult, as they were working on it during class as well as at home. Since it is due in class on Monday, February 27, I felt it was prudent to sent a reminder. Please remind your child to bring his/her completed quiz notes to class tomorrow.

Each Monday for the next five weeks, the students will be taking a quiz on several assigned sections from chapters 20-23 . The students will be using the quiz notes during the quiz. These weekly notes wil be the only homework the students have during the simulation. A significant difference between these quizzes and past quizzes is they will be scored and included in the students’ grades. In addition, a portion of the grade will be based on the quality of the notes. There are additional details on my homework page, along with a sample of the layout of the notes, a handout describing the notes, and an explanation of how the scoring will work.

If a student is absent on any Monday, the quiz will be placed into the TNT Testing room. It is the student’s responsibility to attend the make up quiz on Tuesday at lunch or on Wednesday after school of that same week. The student must turn in the quiz notes to the host teacher after taking the quiz. The schedule and location for the testing room is posted in every classroom.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,
Mr. Siebenthall
