1) Complete the close reading worksheet on Google Classroom for chapters 14-15. 

2) Practice your speech many times! Review the rubric and the assignment sheet on Google Classroom. 

3) Make sure you have completed your genre study assignment. 

HW 12/8 and 12/9:

1. Finish your notecards for your speech by Monday so you can practice your speech in class.

Complete the civil rights pioneer survey on Google Classroom. Make sure to click on the link where it says "here" to take the survey. If you do not choose your top three choices, I will assign you a civil rights pioneer. 

Complete 20 minutes of practice on the Run-on Sentences and Fragments practice on NoRedInk. 

Hw 11/14:

-Complete the Watsons close reading sheet for chapters 9-10

-Final draft of weird family narrative due Tues (1,3,5) or Wed (2,6).

Finish your figurative language project and bring your figurative language assessment rubric to school! 

HW 11/8 and 11/9:

Complete the Watsons close reading worksheet for chapters 7-8 on Google Classroom. You should complete the group worksheet that is the same as your last group. So if you were group A, you are still group A, etc. 

Complete Watsons vocab chapter 8-11 in the Watsons Unit Vocabulary document. You need to complete the definition and a creative sentence. Please write in complete sentences!

Finish your literature circle packet (if not turned in during class). 

 

Study for the vocabulary quiz on the Watsons chapter 1-7 vocabulary (on Thursday, 11/10). 

HW 11/1 and 11/2:

 

Complete the close reading worksheet for chapter 5-6 on Google Classroom. The worksheet that you complete is based on the group you are assigned to. If you were absent or forgot your group letter, please email me or talk to me after class to let me know and I will tell you your group letter. 

Choose figurative language project activities and circle them or put a check mark next to them on your sheet. Must add up to 100 points! 

The project is due 11/14. 

HW 10/25 and 10/26:

Add dialogue to your weird family narrative in blue. 

HW 10/20 and 10/21:

Complete the close reading worksheet for chapters 3-4 on Google Classroom. 

Add your thoughtshot to your weird family narrative in purple. See my narrative example for an example of a thoughtshot. 

Due: Monday 10/24. 

HW 10/18 and 10/19:

 

Complete the first draft of your weird family narrative in the same planning document you used for the brainstorming/plot map. Add sensory details to your narrative in orange. 

HW 10/17:

Complete the tab chapter 4-7 of the Watsons Unit Vocabulary on Google Classroom. This is the same document you used for chapters 1-3, but a different tab at the bottom. 

 

Also, complete the literature circles #1 packet, including your individual reflection. 

HW 10/13 and 10/14:

 

Complete the Watsons' chapter 2 close reading worksheet. You must bring it with you next week for our literature circles!

HW 10/11 and 10/12:

Complete steps 1 and 2 of "Weird Family Narrative" on Google Classroom - brainstorming and plot map. 

HW 10/6 and 10/7:

Finish Watsons Vocab Ch 1-3 on Google Classroom. Please only complete the tab that says Ch 1-3. 

 

You need to complete your definition and creative sentence at the minimum, but the actual definition is optional. 

HW 10/4 and 10/5: 

Study for Unit 1 Vocabulary/Roots Test on Thurs (p 1,3,5) or Friday (p 2,6). 

Study for pronouns quiz retake. The format will be the same and it will be open-note. Remember to bring your blue pronouns notes sheet. 

HW 9/27 and 9/28:

Final draft of "Becky" letter due Friday by 8:30 a.m. submitted on Google Classroom.

HW 9/22 and 9/23:

Rough draft of your "Becky" letter to a 5th grader must be complete by Monday. The assignment is on Google Classroom. Do not click "turn in," but make sure that you have completed your rough draft so that we can use it this coming week for some in-class activities. You will only be submitting your final draft on Google Classroom. 

HW 9/22:

Choose a plot point to write yourself into in "Eleven" to give a character personal power. The assignment is on Google Classroom. Don't forget to press "done."

HW 9/15 and 9/16:

Complete the "Becky and the Wheel Brake Boys" plot activity on Google Classroom. 

 

HW 9/13 and 9/14:

Go to Google Classroom and click on the plot introduction slides. Watch the video and then go back to Google Classroom and click on the plot introduction Google form. Fill out the form and click submit. 

HW 9/12:

 

Go to Google Classroom and complete the Pronouns in "The Circuit" Google form. 

You may use your blue sheet/pronoun notes. 

HW 9/8 and 9/9:

 

Finish The Circuit vocabulary rows 2-15 in Google Classroom under Unit 1 Vocabulary. Make sure you complete the parts of speech words, sentences, antonyms, and synonyms. 

 

 

HW 9/6:

If I checked in with you during class today about the No Excuse words, please complete the assignment in your English folder on Google Drive by the next time we meet (Thursday for periods 1/3/5, Friday for periods 2/6). 

HW 9/2:

Bring in a copy of your personal power lyrics. Make sure these are school appropriate. 

Finish the types of writing activity on Classroom that we started in class today. Make sure you press "Turn it in" on Classroom. 

HW 8/29:

Bring your independent reading book to class!

HW 8/26:

Please make any corrections to your rough draft of your bio poem, paying attention to the rubric on the back of your pink handout. Your final draft is due Monday. 

Please print it out. 

 

Remember to put a heading on the final draft. You can find the directions for the heading in the Keep All Year folder that you bookmarked. 

Homework 8/23:

 

Please use the pink handout you received in class to write a rough draft of your Bio Poem. Follow the line structure indicated on the handout and use the rubric on the back of your handout to help you. 

 

To write your rough draft, please create a Google Doc and title it "Bio Poem" in your English 2016-2017 folder. 

 

I have attached a copy of an A+ level finished poem for you to use as a guide.
