Swarm Inspection

I always inspect a swarm before I shake the bees into a box. I try to figure out where the bulk of the bees are and where I believe the queen is so that I can minimize any damage to the colony. This was a medium to large size swarm--I would guess 3.5-4 lbs of bees in all. It landed on one of my passion fruit vines that didn't make it through the extremely wet and cold winter. I was planning on removing the vine last weekend, but now I'm awfully glad I didn't!

Wednesday 5-24 Swarm Settling

My wife sent me this video of a swarm settling in my yard at the end of lunch on Wednesday. I was crossing my fingers all period during 6th that they would stay put until I got home so I could capture them!
