This class focuses on the language and tools of science and the many forms of life on Earth. We will also focus on science and engineering practices such as designing solutions, developing models, and planning/carrying out investigations.

 Required Materials
● Chromebooks (charged & ready to go daily)
● Notebook to be used exclusively for science - it should be a 100 Page, 8.5" X11" College Ruled Single Subject Notebook. This may be left in the classroom and Mrs. Fish will have a sample copy of the notebook in the classroom for student reference.
● Thin Plastic 2-pocket folder (preferably green) – Students will place homework and incomplete assignments in here so they can be taken home to complete
● Blue/black ink pens, pencils & erasers
● Plug-in headphones (please keep a pair in your backpack at all times). No wireless or Bluetooth are allowed.
● Consumable workbook (students have this in place of a textbook)
A note about Chromebooks We will be doing a lot of our lab write-ups and activities on Google Classroom. One of the benefits of Google Classroom is that I can check student work and understanding even if they forget to “turn in” something.

Classwork & Homework
● Grades are calculated using a weighted point system
○ Product (assessments and projects) = 60%
○ Process (classwork, lab work, homework & science notebook) = 40%
● Grades are updated on PowerSchool weekly.
● Grades are based on points accumulated throughout each nine-week grading quarter.
● Semester grades are calculated from an average of the two preceding quarters.
● Students will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate their learning including lab work, projects, tests, and homework assignments.
● There are NO test corrections - students are permitted to use an External Brain Sheet (“cheat sheet”) that they CREATE for each test. A study guide will be provided prior to the test so students will know what the test covers.
● There is NO extra credit.

Discipline Procedures
● 1st Offense: Verbal reminder
● 2nd Offense: Verbal warning
● 3rd Offense: Parent Contact
● 4th Offense: Parent Contact and Referral to administration.
**Steps 1-3 may be skipped if student or teacher safety is jeopardized.**

Make-up Work for Absences *Due to Covid - please stay home if you are sick. Email the teacher if you are going to be out for a few days.
● Students should check Google Classroom which specifically states what students should be working on. So if you are out sick but feel up to it, you can work on work.
● There will be a packet of make-up work waiting for the student upon their return to class.
● For excused absences, students will have two days for each day missed to make up work. If more time is needed please talk to me.
● Students are responsible for all missed work when absent.
● You will have one week to make up missed tests/quizzes.
● Lab activities will be made up at times assigned by the teacher. Some will not be available once we complete them in class.
