Philosophy of Education

When approaching education, the number one entity I am focused on is the students.

As a classroom teacher with a specialization in foundational mathematics and government/civics, I focus on the students by making the curriculum accessible by using a variety of techniques including, but not limited to, group work, vocabulary building, student-directed lessons, and hands-on activities to meet the needs of the diverse student population.

As a classroom teacher with a counseling education, I focus on the students by building all of their developments (i.e. not just their academia, but their personal/social and career developments as well) by involving the "student-as-a-whole" rather than just the "student" in the learning process.

As a classroom teacher who is a self-proclaimed "nation builder," I focus on the students by providing more than just information to help pass a standardized test. I actively search for those magical "teachable moments" that will hopefully mold my students to be upstanding citizens of the human race.

When I find myself in the presence of children, adolescents, and young adults, nothing else comes more natural than focusing on them.

My philosophy of education is to never lose focus.
