To talk about what people like to do, use the pronouns me, te, le, nos, os, or les + gusta + infinitive:

Me gusta nadar.
Nos gusta andar en bicicleta.
To talk about what people don't like to do, add no before me, te, le, nos, os, or les.


No me gusta correr.
A Alex no le gusta estudiar historia.
Why isn't gustar conjugated the way other verbs are?
Although gustar is often translated as to like, its meaning and structure are closer to the expression to be pleasing.

Me gusta cantar.
To me, it's pleasing to sing.
=
I like to sing.
Te gusta correr.
To you, it's pleasing to run.
=
You like to run.
Nos gusta dibujar.
To us, it's pleasing to draw.
=
We like to draw.
Notice how although the person changes, the phrase it's pleasing stays the same. Gusta is the Spanish equivalent of it's pleasing, and it doesn't change when it comes before an infinitive.
A mí, a ti...
To emphasize or clarify who you're talking about, use phrases like a mí, a ti, etc., or a + a noun or name. This is especially helpful when using le or les, since otherwise it might not be clear if you're saying to him, to her, to you, etc.

A mí me gusta andar en bicicleta.
A Dean le gusta jugar al fútbol.
A ustedes les gusta andar en patineta.
A mis amigos les gusta jugar al básquetbol.

What part of speech is the bolded word?
La secretaria tiene información importante para el Sr. Pichardo.

It is an adjective. The word importante is an adjective. It describes what kind of information the secretary has: it's important.

Cognates are words in different languages that share a common root. Their meanings and spellings are often similar in both languages, although their pronunciations may differ.
Identifying a cognate's part of speech can help you guess its meaning. As you learn more cognates, you might start to recognize some of these common patterns in Spanish nouns, adjectives, and verbs:
Nouns refer to people, places, things, or ideas. Spanish nouns ending in -cia often end in -ce in English, while Spanish nouns ending in -ción often end in -tion in English. In addition, for some Spanish nouns, adding, dropping, or changing one or more letters will give you the English equivalent.
conferencia → conference
presentación → presentation
número → number
Adjectives are words that describe. Spanish adjectives ending in -ico/a often end in -ic in English. Similarly, Spanish adjectives ending in -nte often end in -nt in English, while Spanish adjectives ending in -oso/a often end in -ous in English. Also, for some Spanish adjectives, you may need to change some letters to get the English equivalent.
artística → artistic
diferente → different
delicioso → delicious
deshonesta → dishonest
Verbs tell you what nouns are doing. For many Spanish verbs that are cognates, simply dropping the ending and changing a few letters will give you the English equivalent.
responder → to respond
participar → to participate
describir → to describe
Remember that in many cases, a cognate may not follow a pattern, but you can still guess a word's meaning and its part of speech by looking at the surrounding words and the context of the sentence.
