No Excuse Words in Google Classroom

No Excuse Words

By the end of this quarter I hope that all students will avoid some of these common mistakes in writing. We will complete a practice (which is in class and will be collected) and have a test on this later. Don't worry about the practice score. The practice score will inform you of where you need to grow for the final assessment. We will complete the assessment on Monday/Tuesday (9/1 or 9/2)

Created by Elliott Gavino: Thursday, August 27 1:40 PM

Narrative Writing (in class) in Google Classroom

Narrative Writing (in class)

I’m really eager to understand what you can do as writers of narratives, of stories, so today, will you please write the best personal narrative, the best true story, that you can write? Make this be the story of one time in your life. You might focus on just a scene or two. You’ll only have this class period of 40 minutes to write this true story, so you’ll need to plan, draft, revise, and edit in one sitting. Write in a way that allows you to show off all you know about narrative writing.

In your writing, make sure you:

Write a beginning for your story.
Use transition words to tell what happened in order.
Elaborate to help readers picture your story.
Show what your story is really about.
Write an ending for your story.

***Please close all tabs and windows--you should only have the tab with the assignment open. You may use spelling and grammar tools in Google Docs but no other outside assistance***

Do your best and have fun,
Mr. Gavino

Homework: Decorated Folders with 6 word poem in Google Classroom

Homework: Decorated Folders with 6 word poem

You will decorate your folder (which we will hang for the class to see) and put your work in it throughout the year. On your folder, include a 6 word poem about you.

A six-word poem tells a whole story using exactly six words. To write one, pick a big feeling or memory and cut out all the filler words until only the most powerful action words and nouns remain. You can use punctuation like periods or dashes to create dramatic pauses and surprise your reader.

15 points for a colorful and well organized folder
5 points for a poem that uses 6 words and tells us about you
