Read the poem "The Lost Jewel" by Emily Dickinson and annotate it (we did most of this in class). On binder paper or typed, please write a response to this poem. On the bottom of the T chart we did in class, write one claim for "pro" side and one claim for the "con" side of the participation trophy argument. Each "claim" should be one sentence and should support the position on that side and give the best reason why from the T chart we did in class.
Example for pro side: All kids should receive a trophy for participating in team sports because receiving a trophy encourages kids to play sports even if they are not skilled in the sport.
Please don't use my example, but you can read it to help you get ideas for your own claim.

Interview an adult (can be parent, guardian, aunt, uncle, grandparent, neighbor or high school or college aged sibling) using the questions you wrote in class. Start by telling him or her about the short story, "StarGirl" and what she does in the story. Then have a discussion whether or not a person needs to receive credit for the good deeds he or she does.
