Period 5 English 7 Assignments

 Please read your independent reading book for 20-30 minutes EACH night, including weekends. 

Just as people take a car for a test-drive before buying it, writers take their characters from a possible story out for a test scene. They place their characters in everyday scenes, outside of the storylines, and then see how their characters think, move and act.

 

Write a small moment story using the character you started to develop in class.  To do this, follow the scene guidelines.  Make sure that I will feel like I know this character after reading your small moment story. 

• Include a clear setting that is woven throughout the moment

• Have characters who are thinking, talking, acting, or perhaps doing all those things

• Contain a character motivation and obstacle of some sort

Each Student will be responsible for bringing in an independent reading book to be approved by me.  This book should be at your independent reading level and take you 3-4 weeks to read. You will be assigned 20 minutes of nightly reading. When you have finished the book, you will be responsible for a "book talk."  More details to come about the "book talk" on Tuesday/Wednesday.

 Homework: Choose one meaningful story from your list created in class and begin to develop it. Write one page of the story.
