New Due Date Procedure

As we begin the last 1/2 of the school year we have decided to change the way we handle deadlines and due dates in 8th Grade Science. In response to the needs of our students we recognize that they would benefit from more traditional and timely due dates for assignments, specifically for day-to-day assignments, what the Fisher HW Policy calls ‘Category 1’ assignments. Starting this week and for the rest of the year, we will provide weekly due dates and will update PowerSchool accordingly. This means that students will be expected to complete assignments weekly and work that is not completed on time will receive up to 1/2 credit when turned in late. A zero will be entered into the grade book until the assignment is turned in. Although this is a change from the approach of Mastery Learning it is in line with the Fisher HW Policy and will provide them and you with a more current report of work completed. Hopefully this will also provide a little more motivation and structure to help keep them on track.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

Sincerely,

The 8th Grade Science Team

BTW, The remainder of the year will include a unit on Waves of all kinds, a unit on Force and Motion, the much anticipated Rube Goldberg Project, and Space.

New Unit (Q3)-WAVES

We are finally finished with our very long Chemistry Unit. We covered a lot, everything from atomic structure to oxidation numbers and predicting chemical formulas. Now we will take a look at WAVES. What are they? How are they described? How many types are there? How are they useful??? All will be revealed, in time...
