I’m really eager to understand what you can do as writers of narratives, of stories, so today, will you please write the best personal narrative, the best true story, that you can write? Make this be the story of one time in your life. You might focus on just a scene or two. You’ll only have this class period of 40 minutes to write this true story, so you’ll need to plan, draft, revise, and edit in one sitting. Write in a way that allows you to show off all you know about narrative writing.

In your writing, make sure you:

Write a beginning for your story.
Use transition words to tell what happened in order.
Elaborate to help readers picture your story.
Show what your story is really about.
Write an ending for your story.

Directions: Read my examples, and then create your own creative sentences using each no-excuse word. There are four pages, so make sure to write all of your sentences!

Introduce yourself to the class by writing up a bio as seen on a book jacket.  Write it about yourself in the third person, as you would if you were writing about someone else. (Use she/he/they and your name) Write in pen or type it up and attach it to the postcard I provided. Include a small picture of yourself.
There is an example on the bottom of the attached document.

I will provide the postcards on Wednesday, August 26, after you have completed a rough draft

Include:
Your name/ your period number
Your family
Your pet(s) (if you have one/many)
Favorite things to do (How do you spend your free time?)
Favorite things to eat
A surprising fact or a fun fact about yourself
A  pet peeve of yours (Something that bothers you)
Something you are looking forward to this school year
A picture of you (2x3, 3x5, or 4x6-no larger)

An expectation at Fisher is that you will BRING a free reading book to school every day (not just the days you have English class) and that you will read at home for at least 20 minutes per night four days a week.


Later in the quarter, you will be expected to read a book from a specific genre but for the next month, you may bring any book either from the campus library, public library, or home. We will start class with five to ten minutes of reading most days so this classroom material is as important as your Chromebook.

You will need to bring a free reading book to school every day.

Today in class, we learned the procedures Professor Hulk would like you to use when sending an email to any staff member at Fisher. Use the Google Slides to draft and write an email to Professor Hulk, aka Mr. Waste.

You must email Mr. Waste using the correct form by 5:00 PM the following day if you are unable to complete it during class.

Complete the survey before the end of class today.

Complete the book cover handed out in class. There will be time allocated for working on the assignment during the next block period (Thursday/Friday).

Remember, page one needs the following information:
--Full name (first and last)
--class period
--an image that represents you (place or object)

Page two needs to have one or more words/character traits that define you.
Use the character trait list below and the example Book cover on the assignment to guide your work.

You must use color (colored pencils or markers) and neatness, as always, counts.

A syllabus is an outline of what you will be studying together, containing the important rules and procedures you will be following throughout the 2026-2027 school year. This is also the information that your parents will be receiving during Back to School Night on September 3.

Welcome to 6th Grade English!
Your first homework assignment is to bring in the following supplies to the first block class next week (Monday, 8/17, or Tuesday, 8/18).

1) CHARGED Chromebook
2) Headphones or earbuds (they cannot be Bluetooth)
3) Free Reading Book (a book of your choice that you are interested in reading)
     It may be a book from home or the library
     We will have Library Orientation on Wednesday, 8/19, and then you will be able to check out books from the Fisher Library on Monday, 8/24
