Social Studies 7 - Mrs. Appleton-Period 3 Assignments

Please review the attached slide deck and Blooket in order to update your worksheet (1-4). AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE WORKSHEET IS INCLUDED IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE OR USE AS A GUIDE TO THE VERSION YOU CURRENTLY HAVE.

Complete 1-4 worksheet INCLUDING the Reflection Questions at the End.  This assignment will be stamped on Monday although the Blooket and Quiz will be on Wednesday.


IMPORTANT
Any information that you use to update your worksheet that you received FROM THESE SOURCES BELOW should be written IN A DIFFERENT COLOR pen or pencil than your class notes.

After you have completed this task, please begin brainstorming the 'Checklist' for your Worldview Space Google Slide. Please come to class prepared to begin making your slide. (Have a quote, links, image ideas etc.) Mrs. Appleton will help you with your Google Form (Who Am I? quiz) NEXT CLASS and provide the slide you should use to make your worldview space.

Day 2: REVISION: Please make sure your slide is revised to 'Presentation Mode' for NEXT CLASS PERIOD.  This should include:
Name of Belief System
3- 4 concise, clear, accurate and informative bullet points
Bonus Fact
Relevant Image
3 Source Links (posted in Speaker Notes)
Day 1: 
Find your assigned slide in the attached slide deck below (your slide matches your seat number)
Type your name at the bottom of your assigned slide
Title the slide with the Name of your assigned belief system
Type a minimum of 5-7 sentences that include what you learned from your research (use spell check/grammar check)
Include AT LEAST one new, interesting fact that you found out from your research
Include AT LEAST ONE SYMBOL (image) that supports your writing
You may decorate your slide any way you would like AS LONG AS IT IS A PROFESSIONAL and EFFECTIVE SLIDE DESIGN
Remember to be respectful and accurate in your writing
Only work on your assigned slide - please do not make ANY changes on any of the other slides

Please complete basic research on your assigned religion or belief system. Be prepared to discuss your findings next class period.

Make sure to record your sources on the worksheet. Avoid using Wikipedia or AI as a main source but rather as a starting point to provide additional sources to review.

When sketching out a flag to represent your assigned belief system PLEASE MAKE SURE TO

NOTE: IF you are absent, please email Mrs. Appleton to request which religion/belief system you should research.

1. First open the attached Peardeck Slide Deck. Take notes in notebook for all slides marked with this symbol 📕 

2  When instructed, take the Values Quiz "What's Important to Me" found in the link below.

3. After you finish the quiz, complete assignment 1 - 2  Values Reflection Worksheet in your notebook. You will need to use the responses you gave in the Values Google Form to complete the reflection worksheet. 

Note: You can reopen the Values Quiz Google Form again by clicking on the link below and then selecting  "edit your response". This will allow you to review the answers you selected in case you need help remembering your quiz answers as you complete your reflection.

1. Use the link below to watch a featured CNN10 news story of your choice
2. Complete the attached Google Form based on the information you learn about in the video.

On the SECOND page of your notebook draw THREE different symbols to represent THREE different characteristics of a GOOD CITIZEN - #1: Curiosity. #2: Critical Thinking.  #3: Compassion.  

Each HAND DRAWN, COLORED character should represent aspects of the trait you assign them which means that you cannot draw  a random inanimate object. It must be a character with human characteristics. You will need to briefly explain your choice as well.  Please see example attached below.

THIS ASSIGNMENT IS DUE TOMORROW AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS.  IT WILL BE STAMPED.

Students will make an EFFECTIVE slide presentation that includes information that represents their interview partner's PAST,  PRESENT and FUTURE 

Step 1: Review the  Effective Slides Peardeck attached below. Make sure to pay attention to the various requirements of an EFFECTIVE SLIDE
Step 2: Complete the FOUR Slide Presentation about your partner that includes the following:
Title Page Slide
Past event Slide
Present event Slide (within the past couple of months is okay)
Future event Slide
Step 3: Complete the self assessment slide (at the end of the assigned slide deck)
Step 4: Share a link to your slide deck in the CLASS COMMENT section below this assignment. Make sure to change access to Los Gatos Union School District

Use the material below to prepare for the quiz.  

Please read and review the attached syllabus together and then HAVE YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN complete the required Google Form that can be found on Ms. Appleton's RJ FISHER TEACHER WEBSITE.

The Google Form should be completed FROM YOUR PARENT's (or Guardian's) EMAIL ADDRESS.
NOTE: In order for your parent/guardian to be able to open the document, they will need to go to my Fisher website which they can find on the RJ Fisher Homepage STAFF pulldown menu - select "Staff Directory" and the names are listed alphabetically.

If you understand the assignment and are able to complete this task, send an email to Ms. Appleton by Tuesday, August 18 @ 8:00 pm and in the email subject line type "GOT IT! - P. ___" in all cap letters with your class period included.  You do not need to type anything into the body of the email.   Example: Subject: GOT IT! - P.1

NOTE TO STUDENTS: 
Please take time and care when creating this assignment. I am going to put them on the walls for Back To School Night - your name will be on the back, so they will be anonymous 

DIRECTIONS:1. NEATLY cut out your hexagon
2. Throw away the scraps in the recycle bin
3. In the center of the hexagon draw a NEXTLY, DETAILED SYMBOL of your UNIQUE SUPERPOWER - this could be anything that you think you are good at. 
4. On the top of your drawing, LABEL your superpower  

EXAMPLES: 
something you learn quickly or easily 
how you interact with others, 
things you can make or do really well for your age, 
something that makes you different than others (because that is a good thing to celebrate!!)
4. After you finish your drawing you are going to come up with FIVE additional characteristics about yourself.  (make them ALL nouns) and write them on the outside of EACH side of your hexagon
5. When the teacher says it's time, walk around the room and try to find a match for each of your characteristics.  ONLY ONE MATCH PER PERSON an then move on.  
NOTE: you may match by 'category'.  For Example:  Baseball Player and Swimmer. can be a match because both are 'athletics/sports'

6. After you have matched with as many classmates as possible (it's okay if you weren't able to match ALL sides) turn in your hexagon to the teacher.

7. PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF: Return all supplies and look on both the table and floor to pick up any scraps of paper
