Welcome to U.S. History with Mrs. Keating!

Hello Students and Parents!

Welcome to 8th Grade U.S. History! I'm excited to take you on a journey through American history, from the first Americans to the year 1900.

Throughout the year, we'll explore the first people to live on this continent, the founding of our nation, the American Revolution, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the first five presidents and their foreign policies, westward expansion, the Civil War, Reconstruction, industrialization, and the growth of cities.

Through critical thinking, discussion, and inquiry, you'll take on the role of a historian as we examine the people, events, and ideas that shaped our nation. Together, we'll discover how the United States has grown and evolved over time.

This is my 28th year teaching U.S. History at Fisher Middle School. I began teaching here in 1999 and am proud to be the longest-serving teacher on campus. I earned my bachelor's degree in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz and my master's degree in Education from National University. As a former Union Middle School and Leigh High School student, it's especially meaningful to teach in the community where I grew up. I also come from a long line of educators, so teaching has always been close to my heart.

Google Classroom is where you'll access assignments, due dates, announcements, and other important class information. Students should check Google Classroom every day and, if absent, use it to find any missed assignments.

Assignment grades will be updated in PowerSchool each week. Students are encouraged to check PowerSchool regularly for missing or late assignments.

As 8th graders, this is your final year at Fisher Middle School. Let's work together to make it a memorable, successful, and enjoyable year!
