all right and welcome everybody to your video notes for our math a class these notes should be titled the following video notes 5.2 table 2 equation table to equation alright here's the main question that we're going to be answering today how do you how do we write a linear equation from a table of values hey don't forget to update your table of contents in your math notebook I should have picked up a paper that looks just like this and this is what we will be using for our notes today I sound show you the three components that we typically work with a situation or word problem a graph or a table and what we want to be able to produce horse is riding the equation which is really the more complex of all the skill sets right so let's go ahead and get the problem we'll take a look at the table the table to equation if we need some extra help we might do the grass for the table so we have a table shows the volume of water released by Hoover Dam over a certain. Of time graph the data and find the slope and y-intercept from the graph then write the equation for the graph slope intercept form K so here we have time we have seconds right and we have the volume of water that is pouring out now if you look at the bottom you should see the two components that we need for our equation we need a y intercept is straightforward just calculating the slope what is slope in this case work for the slopes remember what you need you need two points so you need two points from today that's I'm going to choose to this point. I'm going to start with. And we go to my first point is 10 and 150 thousand and my second point is going to be an 225 thousand all right what do I do once you have your two points wise I taught you to calculate the slope you label them and then label this X1 y1 second point I'm going to label x 2 why do once I know what points coordinates are labeled I go ahead and I use my formula 2 - y 1 / x 2 - x 1 I setup my for you and I play the point my wife who is who is going to be 225,000 2 to 5 my white one is 150000 my X2 is going to be 15 in my X1 is going to be 10 I go ahead and I subtract in my slope is going to be 225 - 150000 mm there it is 15 - 10 is 5 can you know you can simplify that so 75,000 / 5 is going to give me 50000 let me set my slope is going to be 15 thousand half the problem is done I'm going to go ahead and label that here my slope is 15 thousand if you want to put words to it you can say 15000 let's eat meters cubed what's the volume of water for one second so 5 seconds 75000 in 1 second 15000k method 1 would be to look at the algebra behind it so I'm going to right here look at the file there Brown number two is right here look at the graph so do we run look at the algebra do we want to look at the graph well since I'm making a video where I'm teaching you this method it's a video tutorial it's your challenge problems what I hear see video tutorial or challenge problem I've covered this in a different set of notes that's already done you have access to that I'm going to go ahead and show you right now on this video number to that way you have all the information available to you so what do we do let's go ahead and grab these Point here we take our ruler we connect the dots in the line will show us exactly where the y-intercept is so here we go and 75000 75000 that's not an exact number the next 110 + 150010 + 150000 X nice right on the grid I'm going to zoom in a little bit more because the grid isn't very obvious from afar that was a good point about 15 to 25 25 would be no that would not be a good number to graph it would be somewhere in the middle 300000 20 + 300000 is in fact a good number so we can see that that was a good point to graph we can see it go ahead lineup your you're two points notice What's Happening Here on the grid line it's going out of 1 2 3 1 2 0 fun right 0 and of course when you think about the logic behind this problem it makes sense that it goes through 0 right after 5 Seconds how much water has gone through that much well ask yourself after 0 seconds how much water has gone through well if you haven't started counting any time then it has to be zero meter cube of water right is that make sense anyways so we can see here that Ry except it's going to be 00 all together ready I'm going to write actually down here so y equals 15 thousand X technically you were talking about + 0 but do we need to write 2 + 0 now we don't need to see your final equation it's just go to be. You don't really need that for zero
