hi this is mrs. Landry and we are going to get started with a presentation on Bloom's taxonomy and what it means in our classroom are we going to use it it's also going to be a big part of your Indie reading project your writing assignment called it as I say and so would you really going over soon but first let's talk about Benjamin Bloom and what his taxonomy is all here is the names you will see Lindsey Gallows Tammy fellows Carol and Jordan created this presentation it was edited by me I want to give credit who was Benjamin Bloom there he is he was born in 1913 and died sing 99  he was a researcher he had a PhD degree he got his master's degree from Penn State and he served as an educational advisor to the governments of Israel India and many other nations he was a very educated man interested in finding out how to classify the thinking systems of our brains so well at the University of Bloom became interested in the development of a classification system he decided to organize a hierarchy of thinking what do we ask questions in ways that force people to think critically he was focused on this thinking critically alright on your worksheet I want you to do Activity one right down to other systems of classification in our society I'll give you a start scientist they classify animals according to the hierarchy in the animal kingdom karate is classified into what think of more and write them down on your paper  press pause now if you need this deposit to finish Activity one and then resume the play for the rest of the presentation when you're done with Activity 1 moving on now that you've written down your classifications let's talk about what Bloom was classifying he was in classifying karate he wasn't classifying animals he was classifying this big thing right here questions he had it he created a 6 level hierarchy and the sixth of a hierarchy is important for developing questions in the classroom because it ensures that teachers incorporate critical thinking into lessons  here are the six levels this is the hierarchy at the bottom knowledge next you have comprehension then applying knowledge analyzing usually in English as looks like we Emma is in what you read when did actually these two should be swapped in the newer version of Bloom's synthesis is at the top and evaluating information is below that alright First Step knowledge and you also have this in your packet knowledge is about remembering material also called understanding the verb be if I asked you to arrange to find the main character duplicate something label list memorize name order recognized relate call repeat traduce and state any of those would show if you were doing one of those things you were remembering alright comprehension comprehension is about understanding the meaning of whatever it is you're reading can you explain what happened can you make predict can you right here interpret summarize convert translate Give an example account for or paraphrase all that is level 2 comp tension  moving on to application this is the ability to use what you learned through the remembering in the understand X the next level level 3 how could XB use to watch how would you show make use of modified stop or apply x to the conditions of why that will look better when you look through your packets and take a look at Pages 1 and 2 end will help you understand application analysis you want to break down material into component parts when you're doing analysis we're talking about differentiating comparing and contrasting distinguishing now from why how is this piece of literature different from this piece of literature how does this character's actions affect or relate to this character's actions why and how and what piece of the novel is sing or could be improved or needed  all of that applies to analysis  next up is let's go back to evaluation this is the ability to judge the value of material and to figure out what the material is saying as far as placing your own opinions on the material and then Define those opinions with evidence so you would be justifying appraising a circumstance or a character evaluating a character's actions you might judging a character according to criteria you might be asking yourself which option would be better or preferable to the character in the story highest level is synthesis this is where you are creating something new something new from the information you've learned from your experiences this is about designing constructing developing maybe your own novel based on your understanding of other novels formulating imagining creating changing a short story and Lynn labeling the elements back here this is the label of part would be back to what level one but because you written your own unique part combining your knowledge from Level 1 into your synthesis your new creation alright  let's sing put the ones that are at the top  play here these are the higher order thinking once is where you want to be in class this is where you want to be in your it says Isaiah Sumit assignment this is the best thinking here it's the higher-order critical thinking creating evaluating and analyzing you do need the bottom lower order thinking skills to do top three though they're all important alright so it's my job to challenge you that's me that's you I'm trying to challenge and so I firmly believe that a good teacher makes you think even when you don't want to I'm going to be there to make sure you're thinking and I want you at levels for five and six analyzing evaluating and creating the aim of this thinking is to stimulate your curiosity and promote Divergence Divergence what is Divergence it's you coming outside plain Circle and thinking outside the box critically there is the man himself in one of the main Hoops let's get back in there sorry sorry about that Sumit the teacher freeze and opens the mind of oh boy sorry the learner initiating the Learner in becoming a well-rounded knowledgeable and more moral human being Right Next Step Paw  Points out that thinking is not driven answers but by questions  alright activity number two on your worksheet why is it important to ask an answer questions at level four five and six and you might want to refer back to the presentation and Rewind a little bit in the video is you need help talk about it with your turn on and discuss and get your answer written down on your worksheet when you're done with activity to you're going to want to read the story The Greenies in your packet and create a question about the text for each
