Run-on Sentence Project

Instead of taking a boring quiz on run-on sentences, you will prove your understanding of what a run-on sentence is and how to fix it by creating a project. You can be as creative as you want with your project; you could depict a rap, a play, a song, a comic strip, a paper presentation, a poster on Canva, or a video. See the rubric for grading criteria. 

Your Project Must:

 Explain the difference between a run-on sentence and a complete sentence
Run-on sentence: Two complete thoughts smushed together without proper punctuation
Complete sentence: A complete thought separated from another complete thought by a comma + conjunction, semicolon, or period
Explain the three ways to fix a run-on sentence: comma + conjunction, semicolon, and period, with examples of run-on sentences and how the run-on is fixed for each one.
Contains clear and neat drawings and text, or is articulate, well-explained. 
It is made with care, thoughtfulness, and creativity

I have provided you with two examples you can look at and get ideas from.

What a RUN-ON Sentence is. 
1. Please read and review the slides. (Watch the video 2 times as a class). 
2. Read the directions and make the corrections on slides 4, 5, and 6.  (1 point each) I made a mistake and left all the answers on slide 4, 5, and 6. No points will be given for this. Please focus on the IXLs for practice. Sorry about that, kids. 

3. When you are done reading about Run-On Sentences, time to do some practice.
4. Log into your clever account and go to IXL. 
5. Please go to Language Arts- 5th grade and complete MM. 4 and MM. 5 to a smart score of 70. (5 points each)

This is your homework, but it is not due until Friday, 10/9 at 5 p.m. so you will have time this week to work on this in Study Skills.

Read the story and answer the questions on the Google Form.

Reminder- You will have your second quiz this Thursday during your English class.

Chapter 1 Packet was started in class on Monday, 8/24. The class completed pages 1 and 2 in class and created hand-made flashcards they will use over the next 2 weeks to study for their test. You are expected to know how to spell the vocabulary word, part of speech, and the definition. It will be due on Thursday, 8/29 -- the same day as the test.

Hi kiddos- I know we didn't complete this in class on Wednesday, so I will have us complete it together as a class on Thursday after the quiz. 


** Note- We will begin our Figurative Language Project next week.**

Today in class, we learned the procedures Professor Hulk would like you to use when sending an email to me. Use the Google Slides to draft and write an email to Professor Hulk, aka Mrs. Lee.

You must email Mrs. Lee using the correct form by 5:00 PM the following day if you are unable to complete it during class.

Directions: Please go back and complete slides 11, 13, and 14 for HW individually.  We completed slides 1-10 as a class, and you will get full credit for that. 

Today we will be working on getting to know you activities with some worksheets for you to work on. (All About Me and English Goals). Each will be scored 5 points for submitting on time.
