No Excuse Words in Google Classroom

No Excuse Words

By the end of this quarter I hope that all students will avoid some of these common mistakes in writing. We will complete a practice (which is in class and will be collected) and have a test on this later. Don't worry about the practice score. The practice score will inform you of where you need to grow for the final assessment. We will complete the assessment on Monday/Tuesday (9/1 or 9/2)

Writing Pre-Assessment in Google Classroom

Writing Pre-Assessment

Today in class you responded to a prompt and turned it in. This is a pre-assessment and helps me as a teacher see what we need to work on in a class. I have scored it on a scale from 1-10 (10 being best). I scored it by assessing:

Did the student respond to the prompt.
Did the student provide a strong claim.
Did the student provide evidence.
Did the student explain how the evidence and claim are related.

No need to submit anything online.

Homework: Decorated Folders with 6 word poem in Google Classroom

Homework: Decorated Folders with 6 word poem

You will decorate your folder (which we will hang for the class to see) and put your work in it throughout the year. On your folder, include a 6 word poem about you.

A six-word poem tells a whole story using exactly six words. To write one, pick a big feeling or memory and cut out all the filler words until only the most powerful action words and nouns remain. You can use punctuation like periods or dashes to create dramatic pauses and surprise your reader.

15 points for a colorful and well organized folder
5 points for a poem that uses 6 words and tells us about you
