Privacy & Safety

LGUSD Student Account

All students will be assigned a [email protected] email account. This account will be considered the student's official LGUSD email address until such time as the student is no longer enrolled with the Los Gatos Union School District.

NOTE: The Google Apps Permission form is signed by parents during the InfoSnap online Registration and Update process. All students must have a signed permission form on file before they can receive their LGUSD Google Apps Account.

Student Account Safety

All student internet traffic is routed through the District filter which is constantly updated and managed to block LGUSD students from harmful websites. In addition, the District restricts the incoming and outgoing email in the district's gmail domain to accounts created and distributed through the district.

Student Account Privileges

Access to and use of student email is considered a privilege accorded at the discretion of the Los Gatos Union School District. The District maintains the right to immediately withdraw the access and use of these services including email when there is reason to believe that violations of law or District policies have occurred.

Student Privacy

The general right of privacy will be extended to the extent possible in the electronic environment. Users of student accounts are strictly prohibited from accessing files and information other than their own. The District reserves the right to access the Google systems and gmail accounts for the district's domain, including current and archival files of user accounts when there is reasonable suspicion that unacceptable use has occurred.

Google for Education Security & Privacy Policies

Google is committed to building products that help protect student and teacher privacy and provide best-in-class security for your institution. Google knows that trust is earned through protecting teacher and student privacy and providing the best security measures.

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

COPPA applies to commercial companies and limits their ability to collect personal information from children under 13. By default, advertising is turned off for Los Gatos Union School District’s presence in Google Apps for Education. No personal student information is collected for commercial purposes. This permission form allows the school to act as an agent for parents in the collection of information within the school context. The school's use of student information is solely for education purposes. Further information can be found on the COPPA website.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA protects the privacy of student education records and gives parents the rights to review student records. Under FERPA, schools may disclose directory information but parents may request the school not disclose this information. Parents are provided the opportunity annually to opt out of disclosing their student's directory information on the District's Online InfoSnap Registration Form. Further information can be found on the FERPA website.
