STEAM Design & Textiles 7/8
This hands-on, project based course will focus on areas of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. We will begin with foundational lessons in 2D and 3D design and its impact on product development, marketing, and economics. Students will then apply principals of design as they learn textile techniques in areas including sewing, fiber manipulation, weaving, dyeing, embroidery, felting, and more. These explorations will also incorporate emerging fashion and fiber arts including sewn circuits, 3D printing and other STEM-enhanced projects that use light, electricity, coding, movement, or other technology in their design. Students will choose and take ownership of projects throughout the year, exploring areas they are most interested in with teacher support.
