hello Center Families my name is Amity Bateman I am the Fisher library teacher and I am also the department chair for the electives department and I'm going to tell you a little bit about elective options for incoming 6th secret students when they enroll can select from two different Pathways the music password or the 6th grade exploratory wheel both of these pathways are for the entire school year hazard here at Fisher for the music pathway I will turn it over to mrs. Anderson our assistant principal to tell you more about the music program let's talk about the music halfway first all the choice we have our kind of a continuation from the fifth grade we have band choir and Orchestra you can see our instruments listed their important to know we don't offer a large Ensemble class that includes piano or guitar but we find that guitar students make excellent musicians in any of the three programs one of the nice thing about the music program is we do have levels of classes we have our Trojan level or intermediate and advanced level typically are trojan level is mostly 6th graders this is a connect to New Edition from the fifth grade program also open for kids that want to switch from different instrument intermediate is mostly 7th grade but audition into this group if they are taking private lessons or an advanced skill and then we also do have advanced level classes for band you have to be in 7th or 8th grade to be in advance but for choir and Orchestra even incoming 6th graders if they're at an advanced level they could audition for that advanced class of talk to your fifth grade music teacher if you want to audition for intermediate or Advanced otherwise you can just sign up for music and be in the Trojan level some of the highlights of taking the music program the classes meet three times a week so we progressed very quickly and we can really easily address any of the learning gaps that fifth grade year is so tough just having music once a week I'm so we can usually help you I'm overcome any deficits that you might have you get to learn a variety of music musical styles and genres we play patriotic music popular music from movies TV shows music all kinds of stuff it's a really family like environment there is a lot of social connections that happen in the music classes we do a lot of events together program program band choir and Orchestra together can you get a really great bond with your teacher for potentially up to 3 years and your group of students we have lots of events and performances throughout the year but very little conflicts with or some other programs so it's a fun thing to be involved in and we are often asked Can We join music in 7th grade if we take the wheel in 6th grade absolutely you can join the music program at any time that you are in the middle school for the wheel pathway students will experience for electives in the chorus year one per quarter rotating through different teachers but staying with the same cohort for each class so the subjects they might experience include French culture Spanish culture steam theater Dance Art and skills for adolescents in the upcoming 2425 school year the wheel offerings will be a quarter of dance a quarter of Spanish Cove a quarter of French culture and a quarter of skills for adolescence and there's some really great benefits that come from taking the exploratory wheel some of the highlights of enrolling in the exploratory wheel are that students get to know for teachers over the course of the year not just one students are also introduced to elect as the bacon take as a year-long elective in 7th or 8th grade things like dance team art also offer your long electives and the skills for adolescents portion of the wheel teaches important skills like organization time management and other helpful skills as students transition in so here's a sneak peek at what your students will have on offer in 7th and 8th grade for electives there is a seventh and eighth-grade wheel as well which also covers I'm of the same ground if they don't have a chance to take it in 6th grade so Spanish and French culture art video productions steam plus other offerings depending on the year we have an art class and a digital art class the same music class set mrs. Anderson described are also on offer and we have two dance classes the open dance for any level of experience in advance dance which does require an audition we also have a year-long steam course we have journalism in yearbook we have musical theater video production and students can also serve as a teacher's assistant as part of their elective in 8th grade many of those same classes are available we also include a year long French or year-long Spanish course which is the equivalent of the same course in high school students that do well in the year-long French or Spanish courses can go into 2 French to or Spanish to at the high school if you have any questions about the electives program here at Fisher or questions about the enrollment process please feel free to contact me my email is listed on the screen and I look forward to seeing were students at Fisher
