P.E. SYLLABUS

 
Below is the syllabus for both 6th grade, as well as the 7th/8th grade syllabus.

Physical Education Program

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT: Fisher Physical Education Department educates students to work towards obtaining their individual potential and promotes a positive attitude towards a healthy and active lifestyle.

 

UNIFORM: The Fisher PE uniform consists of solid green mesh shorts, solid athletic gray t-shirt, athletic socks and shoes appropriate for running.

 

For your convenience, we sell clothes on site through the PE Department. Cash and Checks are accepted. Please make checks out to: FISHER MIDDLE SCHOOL

The cost is:

  • PE shirts $10
  • PE shorts $15
  • RJF Master Lock $10
  • Used Master Lock $5

In addition, we carry sweatshirts, sweatpants and string bags priced as follows:

  • Sweatshirts ($25)
  • Sweatpants ($20)
  • String bag ($10)

 

Uniforms must be labeled in BLACK INK with first initial and last name ONLY.

Defaced or torn clothes must be repaired or replaced.

Other acceptable PE attire:

  • Any color sweatshirts and sweatpants during cold weather with required PE clothes underneath.
  • PE awarded T-Shirts earned by that particular student.

 

It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their own clothes and launder weekly. PE clothes are worn only during PE and 6th grade dance classes. No athletic uniforms allowed.

 

Contact child’s PE teacher if you have a financial hardship for PE clothes and lock.

 

LOCKS & LOCKERS: All students using the locker room will purchase a lock from the PE department or handed down lock with V606 on back.

 

                        

 

 

GRADING: The physical education evaluation process is broken into two categories in 6th grade: Process and Product. The Process grade is 20% of the overall grade, which includes items such as punctuality, uniform preparedness, appropriate behavior, following direction and routines. The Product grade is 80% of the overall grade and consists of items assessing the National Physical Education Standards. Some examples of product assessments are: Pacer, Monthly Mile, Skill Assessments, Portfolio Data Analysis, etc.

 

ABSENCES: NO MAKE-UP IS REQUIRED WHEN ABSENT FOR DAILY AND WORKOUT POINTS.

Students are graded based on the time they are in PE for daily points and workout points.

Assessments and tests must be made up during the current grading period (ex. Fitness Testing, Monthly Mile, Quarterly Pacer Assessment, Reflections, School Net Assessments, Etc.). PE Teacher will arrange times to do make-ups.

 

PRESENT IN CLASS/ UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE:

Students who bring a parent or school nurse note stating they are unable to participate in PE, or in a particular workout, will be required to submit a make-up workout assignment. Print out form on the PE Website or see PE teacher for form.

Students present in class with no note must make up workouts during a supervised time at school (coordinate with teacher).

 

STUDENTS ON MEDICAL LEAVE:

Students that are medicals must turn a doctor’s note into the main office stating specific restrictions from PE class. Modifications to daily instruction will be made for students to still participate when allowed.

                                                 

If the note states NO PE for more than 1 week, and the student is present at school, study hall in library will be assigned pending behavior. Students will be excused from workouts during the duration of doctors note. Specific details on PE Website.

GRADING: The physical education evaluation process is based on participation (effort, behavior, responsibility and sportsmanship) as well as assessments and physical fitness development.

Grades are based on a percentage of possible points:

100% - 90% A, 89% - 80% B, 79% - 70% C, 69% - 60%, D, 59% - 0% F

  • Block Days = 10 daily points (responsibility, effort, behavior & sportsmanship)
  • Non block days = 5 daily points (responsibility, effort, behavior & sportsmanship)
  • Monthly Mile / Quarterly Pacer Run = 25 points
  • Workouts = 5 points (emphasis on cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance)

 

Other miscellaneous points / assignments will be added to grades at the discretion of individual teachers.

Possible deductions:

  • Participation / Effort Points – non-participation or lack of effort -1 to -5.
  • Responsibility Points – food, gum, tardy, leave early, loaner clothes, wrong shoes -2
  • Behavior Points - inappropriate behavior -1 to -5.
